Executive Summary: The Tax Supervisor will serve the firm's real estate clientele, comprised of investors, commercial and residential developers, managers, and owners in the areas of tax planning and compliance.
Real estate is a complex tax environment, and the firm is looking for a strong tax technician to join their team. The right candidate is interested in learning how to develop tax strategies and creative solutions to help clients stay at the forefront of a highly competitive field.
The real estate group is a mature and successful part of the firm's practice - and has been since the firm's inception. Other services the Real Estate Group provides include debt restructuring, entity selection, pre-acquisition due diligence, dealing with foreign ownership, tax-free exchanges and other real estate-specific services.
Job Responsibilities:
- Review of federal and state tax returns for LLC’s, partnerships and LP’s
- Running tax engagements, including scheduling staff, budgeting engagement hours, and billing and collection
- Analyzing and planning for the tax benefits of sale and purchase transactions
- Training and developing professional staff, both on-the-job and for in-office courses
- Researching and developing solutions to complex tax issues
- Review of tax returns prepared by staff
- Communicating the status of projects to team members
- Determining and suggesting ideas for optimal entity selection
- Handling direct contact with clients to discuss and resolve real estate-related tax matters and problems
- Assisting in the preparation of articles for the firm's quarterly newsletter, “The Bottom Line”
Candidate Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or graduate degree in taxation (MBT or MST)
- Substantial experience working with pass-through entities (LLCs, partnerships, LPs and S-Corps)
- Real estate experience is not a requisite
- Four (4) to seven (7) years of experience in public accounting, depending on the nature of the candidate’s experience
- Pursuing or holds a CPA license [California]
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience working with and leading teams, managing multiple engagements and developing professional staff
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
